Fall in Love - sketch challenge

This week I'm the hostess for the sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches blog and I hope you will join us in the challenge!

Using the challenge sketch, I decided to make an anniversary card for my husband.  It will be 34 years at the end of this month!  Time sure flies....

Posted challenge:
I started this card by picking a few patterns from two of three autumn themed paper stacks I just purchased.  I then color matched some of the colors to go with this image.  When coloring images, I often quickly block in colors on several stamped images. This saves me from getting part way through coloring and realizing that I should have made part of the image a different color.
You can see it took several tries before I decided on the colors.  It is very rare that my first attempt at color placement is the one I end up with.  Ultimately, I even changed the pattern paper that I had chosen.  I ended up with a plaid from the third paper stack that I hadn't even considered.  Fortunately, the colors in all three stacks were very similar!

To add some texture to the girl's sweater I colored it first, and before coloring anything else, I misted an old sock with some Copic blending solution.  The sock has a texture like terrycloth and when lightly blotted on the colored sweater it gave it a fuzzy texture.  To add the ribbing to the tights and scarf I used the chisel end of my marker held at a sharp angle and drew in some lines.
I intended to go over this and add detail with Prismacolor pencils but decided to leave it as it is.  Sometimes you can overwork an image and that is rarely good!

Thanks for visiting today - please join us in the sketch challenge!
