Found My Lost Salt Shaker

Today's color challenge at Splitcoaststampers is the one that inspired all my cards this month.  Karen picked the colors Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party and Blushing Bride.  Her dessert?  Music!

If you haven't guessed by now - my cards were inspired by Jimmy Buffett!  I confess, I'm a parrot head!  I've been to more of his concerts than I can count.

The inspiration for this card is fairly obvious - "Margaritaville".

Last week was inspired by the song "Duke's on Sunday" - a song about chillin' at a popular Waikiki restaurant on the beach.  It's a great place to people watch and enjoy the sunset.  The week before was "Fins" - a song about a girl who heads south to the gulf coast and has to look out for the sharks who "hang out in the local bars and they feed right after dark."  And my first card was inspired by the nickname Parrot Head and features some of my favorite images from the Stamps of Life - the parrot and the birdhouse fold-it die.

Products used:

  • Shaker: Queen & Co. Bottoms Up Shaker kit (Margarita and limes)
  • Dies: The Stamps of Life Step-Up,  SaltShaker2stamp (dies)
  • Stamps: Funny Bones by Riley & Company RWD-785
  • Paper / Cardstock: Stampin' Up! Glimmer, 2022-2024 DSP, Butterfly Kisses, Parakeet Party, Smoky Slate
  • Accessories: Stickles Star Dust, resin flowers

Flip Card for Tic Tac Toe Challenge

I have a fun fold flip card for this week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge.

Carol on Team O has a fun board.  I chose the top row across.

I used a "Flip-It" card die from The Stamps of Life to make the base of this card.  This card should have been very quick to make (and will be the next time!) but as usual it took me forever to make decisions.  I had pretty much decided to just use red, yellow and white and I knew I needed to use polka dots.  I toyed with the idea of also using stripes or gingham and using candles instead of flowers.  So there was a lot of cutting that ended up not used.  But I always save the extras so I will use them elsewhere.

The card flips and says make a wish on the inside.  I can always use birthday cards.  On these kinds of cards the die cut on the flipping part can be larger than the flipping element as long as it is to the right side of the fold so it doesn't interfere with the "flip".

Products used:

  • Dies: The Stamps of Life Flip-It (retired, but there are similar ones available), Newportflowers2stamp Dies, Make A Wish Die
  • Paper: TSOL Birthday, Basic White, Granny Apple Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Real Red, Daffodil Delight
  • Accessories: TSOL Gingham Ribbon, TSOL Enamel Dots

CAS Birthday Card

Happy Tuesday!  I have a super simple CAS birthday card for the color challenge this week at CAS Colours & Sketches.

Our colors are Orchid Oasis, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo.

This card use dies and stamps from The Stamps of life but any small flower will work.  To add interest to the card and keep it CAS, I embossed the top layer of the card with a small texture after cutting the curve.  Always emboss after die cutting so that the embossing doesn't flatten in the second pass through the machine.

I hope you will join us this week - we have some great colors!

Products used:

  • Stamps: The Stamps of Life newportflower2stamp, stamps from July 2016 card kit
  • Dies: TSOL newportflowers dies, border dies
  • Ink: Melon Mambo, Memento Black
  • Accessories: Stampin' Up! 2022-2024 Matte Enamel Dots

Duke's on Sun-Day Color Challenge Card

I'm the hostess this week for the Splitcoaststampers.  I chose Orchid Oasis, Polished Pink and Daffodil Delight with "summer" as my dessert.  This card is in keeping with my mystery theme this month.

The "Duke" on my card is for Duke Kahanamoku, who popularized surfing in the early twentieth century.  There is also a restaurant in Waikiki named for him; the first of a now chain of restaurants.  For certain individuals Duke's in Waikiki is THE place to be on Sunday!

The card is a Fold-It card made with the Surfboard Slimline die, Little Peeps Liam, moresand2stamp, sayings4sandcastles, summer4fun stamps and dies from the Seagull Class.

Although the surfboard alone will fit into a standard business size envelope I did make the card a bit wider by adding the sand at the bottom.  I only had 8 1/2 x 11 inch cardstock, so in order to make the card a top fold Fold-It, I made fold at the 5 1/2 inch point (about half way up the back).

Duke is colored with Copic markers.  The inside and most of the other elements are shaded using sponges or eye makeup brushes and ink.  I did use a Copic marker to letter the sign.

I hope you have enjoyed my card today.  Have you guessed my mystery theme yet?

Products used:

  • Stamps / dies: The Stamps of Life Little Peeps Liam, moresand2stamp, summer4fun, sayings4sandcastles
  • Dies: TSOL Surfboard Slimline Fold-It, Seagull Class
  • Ink: Polished Pink, Daffodil Delight, Orchid Oasis, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede
  • Cardstock: Daffodil Delight, Orchid Oasis, Polished Pink, Basic White, Crumb Cake, Sahara Sand

Dragonfly for CAS Sketch Challenge

Happy Thursday!  I'm a bit late with my Tuesday post.  I made the card but did not have time to photograph and post it until today.  This is for the sketch this week at CAS Colours & Sketches.

Here is the sketch:

I used the Dragonflies2stamp set from The Stamps of Life and their new Big Eyelet Scallop Rectangle dies. To lift up the panel a bit I used two layers of Coastal Cabana cardstock underneath. The dragonfly is colored with Copic markers and I used three coats of Wink of Stella on the wings.

Products used:

  • Stamps / dies: dragonflies2stamp, moredragonflies2stamp
  • Dies: Big Eyelet Scallop
  • Copic Markers: G12, G14, G16, BG0000, BG02, BG05, BG07
  • Accessories: Stampin' Up! Dot embossing folder, Wink of Stella, enamel dots

Fins to the Left, Fins to the Right

Happy Tuesday! Here is my second card for my mystery theme this month.  This one may be more obvious than last week's card - at least for fans of a certain musician!  The colors are from the color challenge at Splitcoaststampers this week - Bermuda Bay, Fresh Freesia and Basic Grey with die cuts for dessert.

This fun 3D scene will fold flat to A2 size.  I used The Stamps of Life Fold-a-Scene die for the background but really that wasn't necessary.  I could have just measured and scored.  I do like the die set though because it has panels and the scene builder pieces for across the front and the inside.  I just did not use them here.

The girl and sharks are colored with Copic markers.  I used two of TSOL's Little Peeps - one for the girl and one for her bathing suit which I added by masking.  The sets come with dies so you could just cut everything out separately and the clothes by gluing on top - like paper dolls!  I think that is why I like the Little Peeps series; it takes me back to my childhood.

The sky and sea ocean are stenciled in the Distress Oxide equivalents of Fresh Freesia and Bermuda Bay.   I find they blend so easily I hate using any other ink with stencils.  The palms trees in the background are part of the fold a scene beach set add-ons and are also colored with DO ink, applied with eye shadow brushes.

Products used: The Stamps of Life unless other wise noted

  • Stamps/dies: Little Peeps Katie, Little Peeps Kirstin, Shark Pudgie
  • Dies: Fold-a-Scene, Fold-a-Scene Beach Add On
  • Markers: SU Blends Fresh Freesia Light & Dark, Bermuda Bay Light; Copic: RV52, BG11, BG23; Skin - E00, E21, E34, R20; Hair - YR31, YR24, E55, E35; Sharks - N0, N1, N2, N3, N4, N5
  • Ink: Distress Oxide Milled Lavender, Peacock Feathers, Forest Moss, Vintage Photo
  • Stencils: MFT Make Waves, Lawn Fawn Slimline Cloudy

Red Balloon Mini Slimline

Happy Thursday!  My card today is for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week.  We have a fun board with lot's of possibilities.

I chose the middle row across - Balloon(s), Birthday, Twine

I used the bunny from Spellbinders die cut from scraps of cardstock.  The background was stenciled using Distress Oxide ink.  The Lawn Fawn Stencil I used for the grass also has a mask of the grass so you can color the grass, move the stencil to the mask side, then color the sky.  How clever is that!  The card needed a little something so I added a few flowers from some shaker elements that I have.  These elements can make great additions to your cards.

Products used:

  • Dies: Spellbinders Floating Bunny
  • Stamps / Dies: Lawn Fawn Wavy Sayings and Simple Wavy Banners
  • Cardstock: scraps
  • Ink: Distress Oxide Tumbled Glass, Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron
  • Stencil: Lawn Fawn Grassy Hillside, MFT Clouds

Parrot Birdhouse Easel Card

Happy Tuesday!  I have a fun card for you today that is part of a theme this month.  After looking at the colors for the color challenge at Splitcoaststampers I've decided to make all my cards follow a certain theme just for fun (and to make it a little more challenging for me.)

Barbara's colors this week are Polished Pink, Coastal Cabana and Black with Birds as dessert.  I had made a similar card which I LOVED as a sample for The Stamps of Life to use on HSN.  I couldn't make the exact same card because of the color constraints and I wanted to make something I can use as decoration for the summer.  And so this card was born!

For the card base and birdhouse I started with a top fold A2 card and cut the front panel so it is only 2 3/4 inches wide.  I scored it at 2 3/4 to get the fold for the easel.  I wanted a leafy background so I used Distress Oxide inks in Coastal Cabana and Mossy Meadow equivalents with the Palm Leaf stencil to create my own patterned paper.  I antiqued the edges with black and glued a square to the thin front panel and a full size panel inside of the card.

I used the shadow die on the fold and cut it to one story using a straight edge and X-acto knife following the lower story roof edge.  From there it was just a matter of only using the bottom half of the birdhouse die.  The house "siding" is stenciled with the Sea Wave stencil.  The sign is hand cut.

One nice thing about color challenges - you can get all kinds of colors by blending the ones in the challenge.  I got a wide variety of greens by combining the Coastal Cabana and Mossy Meadow (an allowed neutral)  The hibiscus leaves are actual the blue cardstock inked with the green!

Finally, I colored my parrot with Copic markers I color matched and then went over with Prismacolor pencils.

I hope you've enjoyed my card today!  Check back for next Tuesday's installment of my "secret" theme for August.
