Sending Love

My card tonight is for the color challenge this week at Splitcoaststampers.  I chose the colors this week with absolutely no idea what I would do with them!  My colors are Polished Pink, Purple Posy, and Mint Macaron with any yellow for dessert.

I've had this die from Cottage Cutz for a month or two and decided it would be perfect for this challenge.

The yellow I chose is So Saffron.  Originally I was going to put a circle behind the kitty and envelope but in going through my dies I found this "postage stamp" looking die.  Since it was a little long for the layout, I added a post mark.

We have a fun challenge this week and hope to see your creations in the gallery!

Products used:

  • Dies: Cottage Cutz Spring Kitten w/ Envelope, Queen & Co. Foundations #7 and #10, MFT Stitched Rectangles
  • Stamps: Mama Elephant To My Dearest, The Stamps of Life postmarks2stamp

Pierced Blooms Squares

I'm back from my vacation last week and ready to start making cards again!  It got a bit busy right before I left so I consolidated some of my challenges.  This one is a two-fer; the color challenge at Splitcoaststampers and the sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.

The colors this week are So Saffron, Highland Heather and Pumpkin Pie with any DSP for dessert.   Since I could use ANY I chose a green leaf patterned one by Queen & Co. to coordinate with my flowers.

I altered the sketch a bit by making my squares skewed.  I wanted to add a bit of whimsy to a very symmetrical design.  I hope I didn't stray too far off course.

Both challenges are fun - I hope you'll find time to join us in one or both!

  • Dies: Stampin' Up! Pierced Blooms, MFT Single Stitched Line Square Frame

Monkey Business with Catch You Later

My card today is for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge.  I chose the bottom row - animals, two of somethings and CAS although it can also qualify for the middle column.  I often find when doing this challenge that I use element from squares in addition to the row I'm using.  I guess they just jump start my creativity.

When I got this stamp set I immediately had the idea for this card.  And it turned out to be perfect for this board.

The top layer is glued to three green layers underneath to give some color to the dimension.  I colored the monkeys with Copic markers.

Pierced Blooms Friendship Card

It's time for the first CAS Colours & Sketches sketch challenge of February.  YoonYoung gave us a great sketch to use three elements.  It seems that lately I've been using my Pierced Blooms dies a lot.  I really do love these dies as I find them very versatile and they create great looking cards!

You've heard me say this many times - store extra die cuts with the die.  When I pulled out this die I found three flowers already done!  I just needed to cut the stems and leaves.  And to make it even easier I used a sentiment strip from Simon Says Stamp.  I love these packs.  They contain pre-printed sentiments that you simply cut out.  What a time saver!

I hope you'll find time to join us this week in the challenge.

Products used:

  • Dies: Stampin' Up! Pierced Blooms, MFT Stitched Rectangle Stax
  • Sentiment: Simon Says Stamp The Best Friends

Multi-Occasion Card

Barbara's colrs for the color challenge this week at Splitcoaststampers features some cool colors.  And she picked water as her "dessert".  Her colors are Night of Navy, Balmy Blue and Just Jade - which are perfect for water images.

However, I went a slightly different way with dessert.  Instead of a water themed image I went with water coloring.  In particular I used what I call the "splat" technique.  I created a panel of free form watercolor with the challenge colors then cut my small strip.

I purposely used a very generic sentiment; one that could do for a birthday or congratulations.  I like having a stock of these kinds of cards on hand.

  • Stamps: Stampin' Up! Happy & Heartfelt
  • Dies: Stampin' Up! Painted Flowers

Bird Fold-It for Another Purple Bird

It seems I like purple birds this week!  My post Monday showed a small purple bird and today I have a large one for you!  This card is for the Tic Tac Toe Challenge this week.  I chose the middle column - embossing, purple or pink and shaped card.

If you're asking where the embossing is, it is on the flower.  I inked up the whole thing in Versamark ink then dipped it in clear embossing powder.  In real life it is a nice, shiny embellishment!  I did not realize that the EP would darken the color of the paper as much as it did, so unfortunately the shading I did on the edges of the flower are lost.  If you're planning on doing this make sure there is a good bit of contrast between your cardstock and the color ink you're using to shade.

As I was making this card I kept smiling.  This bird just looks happy.  I'll need to save this for someone who needs a pick-me-up.

Products used:

  • Dies: The Stamps of Life Bird Fold-it, Flowers2layer, Sweet Moments card Kit dies
  • Cardstock and ink: various scraps with ink to coordinate

Love Inchies

We have a new hostess for February at CAS Colours & Sketches with a new color challenge.  One that is perfect for Valentine's Day!  YoonYoung gave us Melon Mambo, Blushing Bride and Real Red.

My card is also for the Ways to Use It challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  The WTUI challenge gives a particular element, product (example, embossing powder) or tool to use in making your card.  This week is "inchies" - those small 1 x 1 inch squares.  You can also use "twinchies" which are 2 x 2 inch squares.

My inchies are punched with a postage stamp punch and each square has three layers of a contrasting color underneath.  Melon Mambo under Blushing Bride and the reverse.  The heart is die cut from Real Red.

I'm also entering this in the CASology challenge for Week 400:
