Toucan Birthday Party

Happy July!  I have a fun, bright birthday card featuring the toucan from the Cottage Cutz Beach & Tropical release.  It seems every week I get a new favorite die.  This toucan is so adorable, I think it may be my new favorite!
I had this sentiment had thought it so perfect for a toucan birthday card.  The first thing I did was pick out a paper for the background.  I wanted it bright with yellow and orange since those colors are in the birds' beaks.  There were multiple options but I liked this one for its casual feel.  From there the colors were chosen and the rest was easy.
I cut the pieces from various colors of cardstock using two oranges (beaks, feet, flowers) and two yellows (bird, cake, flowers).  I cut the cake stand from silver and then used paper snips to cut off the base to make a cake plate.  I assembled the birds but did not attach the eyes or feet.  I wanted the eyes to be looking towards the cake and the feet on the branch, so these will need to be the added last.
Since all of this will be adhered to an A2 card base, I cut a panel from my patterned paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.  I used white cardstock to cut a rectangle using the largest of the Nested Wacky Stitched Rectangles.
I stamped the sentiment in the lower left corner of the white rectangle, centered it on the panel and added the branch and cake.  I  placed the birds on the card without gluing down to finalize placement of the branch.
I glued the body of the lower toucan first leaving the head unattached so I could slip in the upper toucan and adjust its placement.  When that was done I adhered the lower toucan's head using a fine tipped glue.  Then I added the eyes and feet.
The lower right of the card looked a bit bare so I added a few flowers.  Normally I like white space on cards but this one is so festive It seemed to need MORE!  So I added....
a few sequins for bling!  After all, what's a party without sparkle?

And now a little extra tip:

When cutting the beak, feet, body and flowers I had colors for parts that I did not use.  It took just a few minutes to assemble a few more beaks and flowers.  Now I have them ready to use on other cards.  Not exactly the same as this card, but definitely usable.  I store these in the die package so they are ready to go!

Products used:

  • Dies: Cottage Cutz - Toucan, Nested Stitched Wacky Rectangles, Layered Cake & Stand, Garden Bear (branch)

Sunny Day with Spectrum Noir Tri-Blends

Summer just officially started and I have a fun card to celebrate.  And it's also time  for the Team O challenege at the Tic Tac Toe challenge.

I picked the top row across - beach, stencil and yellow.

This board has so many possibilities it was difficult to choose what to do.  Ultimately I picked this cute image from The Stamps of Life.  She is part of the "Stephie doll" group of stamps.  I love to color images with lots of hair (one reason I enjoy Stamping Bella images) and Stephie here has lots of hair - so fun!

I used (mostly) Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend markers for her.  These give you three shades in the same marker.  I purchased these because I thought they would be good to take on trips.  They do blend quite nicely.  My only thought is that they have only one type on nib on the pen, and in this case a bullet nib.  Bullet nibs are great for small areas but I do prefer a brush or sketch nib for larger areas.  That said, I still think the convenience of these make them great for travel or if you're looking for a less expensive alternative to Copic markers. Most stamps don't have super large areas to color anyway, so the bullet nib is fine.

I used a stencil and TSOL Blue Jay ink to create my clouds.  I had lots of fun making this card.  Made me want to head to the beach!

Products used:

  • Stamps and Dies: StephieDoll2, summer4fun
  • Stencil: MFT Mini Clouds
  • Markers: Spectrum Noir Tri-Blends Fair Skin, Tan, Gold Brown, Earth Brown, Citrus, Pale Pink, True Blue;   Copics (I did fill in with my Copics. It's hard not to - I have over 200!) B21, Y15, Y18, RV32, RV34

Hello Sunshine CAS Card

Hello Thursday!  It's a new challenge for Team O at Tic Tac Toe Challenge!  Stef gave us a very sunny, summery board to work with this week.  Perfect for June!

I chose the middle row across - Hello, Friend and Sun/Sunshine.

This was one of those cards for me that came out totally different than what I had envisioned.  Not quite as .... I'm not sure, but just not it.  Although I will say I like this card, but it's not what I had in mind.  That said I made two - each with a different background color!

This is the first one with the darker blue background.  In retrospect, I like both background colors equally so I didn't really need to make two.  However, I'm happy I did as I can use these as birthday, thank you or just thinking of you cards!

Almost all of the products used are fairly old. I'm not sure what is still available so I'm not posting a list!
