Double Challenge Tuesday

It's the fifth Tuesday of the month so we have a Timeless Tuesday double challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches.  This means we've taken a sketch from the past and combined it with retired colors.

I did not have the Pretty in Pink so I had to substitute.  I chose another retired pink - Powder Pink. Since I had cardstock in the Banana and the Rose I used those and tipped the petals with the Powder Pink ink. Black seemed a bit harsh for the sentiment so I used a light grey.

Unlike the other challenges at CC&S, this challenge will only run for one week. I hope you will join us!

Products used:

  • Stamps: Lawn Fawn Simply Sentiments
  • Dies: Spellbinders Be Bold Blooms
  • Ink: Powder Pink, Smoky Slate
  • Cardstock: Barley Banana, Rose Red

Wood You Be Mine?

I've posted Valentine's Day cards this month (and will be posting more later this week). My previous ones were for friends but this one is for my husband. I got this Lawn Fawn set of beavers because it was just so dam cute! (Pun intended.)

I decided to use it for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers - Poppy Parade, Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake. I knew right away I would use the Crumb Cake as a background for the beavers.  The real challenge for me was that in terms of value, all three of these colors are very similar.  Not a lot of contrast in black and white. To remedy that I reversed out one of my large XOXOs and placed it in the center. In doing this it came to the front and the others receded. It also helped the beavers stand out.

I colored the beavers with Copic markers and heat embossed the sentiment on Early Espresso cardstock.  Dessert this week is our "favorite embellishment." I'm not sure that this hear is my favorite....but I do like enamel dots of any kind!

Products used:

  • Stamps / Dies: Lawn Fawn Wood You Be Mine
  • Dies: Lawn Fawn Giant XO and Stitched Woodgrain Backdrop
  • Markers: Copics - E30, E31, E33, E34, E35, E37; Stampin' Blends Poppy Parade
  • Cardstock: Coastal Cabana, Basic White, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso
  • Accessories: Mini Heart Enamel dots, White Embossing Powder

Heirloom Lace Alternate Card

This morning's card is for the color challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  Karen gave us some soft, cool pastels that are wonderful for a winter card but also great for spring. Her colors are Highland Heather, Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz with Ribbon for dessert (an optional element for the challenge.)

Recently I've been watching a lot of Anna Griffin videos and have several of her card kits.  I got this one around Christmas and noticed that the colors in it were very similar to this week's colors.

I used it as a jumping off point rather than making one of the cards in the kit. I pulled a card base that matched from a box of AG cards. The cards in the kit are square but rectangular cards are easier (and less expensive) to mail. I used the Heather and Pear to cut the shadows for the doily and sentiment.

Products used:

  • Kit: Anna Griffin Heirloom Lace Kit (includes dies)
  • Card base: AG Impression Die Cards
  • Accessories: Sentiment AG Create 8 Class 1 and AG Bow
  • Additional: Cardstock - Stampin' Up! Highland Heather and Pear Pizzazz; AG Matte Gold

Tic Tac Toe Challenge

Happy Thursday!  Today is the first Team O challenge of the year at Tic Tac Toe Challenge. Silke has a fun board for us. I've been making Anna Griffin cards lately and this board seemed made for one.

A friend of mine recently celebrated her 60th birthday. I bought this cake easel card because I thought it very versatile for birthdays, weddings, babies, etc.  A cake can used for a lot of occasions!

One trick to make the intricate cuts pop a bit - I die cut the cake from gold cardstock and offset it just a bit from my top layer.  This helps to give definition when using a pattern for the top layer.

Thanks for stopping by today - I hope you will join in the challenge

Products used:

  • Dies: Anna Griffin Cake Easel card
  • Paper and Embellishments: Anna Griffin

Galentine's Day Cards

For this week's sketch challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches I have a "Galentine's Day" card for you.

This stamp and die set is from Simon Says Stamp - "You're My Gal".  I love the bold sentiments in the set along with the "Galentine's Day" ones. Last week I used this set to make a card for Splitcoaststampers color challenge.

I hope you've enjoyed my cards today and will join us at one or both of the challenges!

Color Challenge with Desert Details

I'm the hostess this week for the Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  Although I had purchased this Stampin' Up! set during pre-order, I hadn't used it. So I chose Calypso Coral, Petal Pink and Soft Succulent knowing that they would be perfect for it.

I saw a similar layout online and used it as a jumping off point. I find making cards that way or using sketches really helps cut the time it takes to make a card. I toyed with the idea of using one of the neutral papers as the background instead of the white but decided to keep the card a bit lighter.

This set is a bit out of the usual style of stamps that I purchase, but it has some wonderful design elements in it. Depending on the colors you use it can be very muted and southwest in feel or bold and graphic!

Two Challenge Tuesday

Happy New Year!!! I took some time off over the holidays but I'm back for the new year with more challenges.

My first challenge is for the color challenge at CAS Colours & Sketches. Before I get to the colors I have an update on the challenge. We will be going to an bi-weekly challenge with the color challenge the first Tuesday and the sketch challenge on the third Tuesday. Those months that have a fifth Tuesday will have the double challenge as before. We hope this gives more people time to participate!

And now, the colors this week are Cherry Cobbler, Granny Apple Green and Blackberry Bliss.

Yes this is Cherry Cobbler - stamped off once. My ink pad is fairly old and I think it may have gone bad but I did the best I could with it. And the Blackberry is there in the rhinestone; it's just difficult to distinguish it from black.

My second card is for the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge - Early Espresso, Sweet Sorbet and Mint Macaron with something sweet for dessert.

I pulled out an oldie but goodie stamp set and punch. I kept things CAS but wanted a bit of color around the edges so I added the plaid. I'm trying to use old sets in new ways and not buy so much stuff this year. But old sets can look dated. In this case when I tried the panel against a dotted background it really did look like something from 2011. I think the plaid looks a bit more current.

I hope you will join us in one or both challenges this week!

Products used:
