September 2020 has five Tuesdays so CAS Colours & Sketches this week has a special challenge for you - Timeless Tuesday! YoonYoung has picked an older sketch and retired Stampin' Up! colors for the challenge.
Here is the challenge:I think this is the first time that I haven't had one of the colors. I couldn't believe it, but I do not own Baja Breeze in any form of ink. I substituted Balmy Blue; it's not quite as gray but it is pretty much the same value as Baja Breeze, which is a bit lighter than Marina Mist
This is a super simple card to make. On a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch piece of Whisper White Thick cardstock, In I lightly outlined in pencil where I was going to cut my rectangle. Then I stamped the bird and lower branches.
I colored it using Stampin' Write markers, acrylic blocks and a Blender Pen. This is one of my favorite techniques for light watercoloring and probably the only time I use my markers! But it works beautifully. For this challenge I added two neutral browns for shading and the branches - Crumb Cake and Soft Suede
After I colored the bird and lower branches, I stamped the sentiment and cut the rectangle. I removed the rectangle, stamped the upper branches and colored those.
The panel is attached to an A2 card base. I popped up the rectangle with the bird using three rectangles of Balmy Blue underneath. I couldn't resist adding a touch of sparkle so there is one clear Elegant Faceted Gem.
Coloring using a blender pen and markers or watercolor pencils is a great way to venture into coloring. It's not expensive and the results can be very impressive. You don't get the seamless, blended look of alcohol markers, but you do get the lovely look of watercolor!
I'll
be offering a beginning coloring class in November using the
markers and acrylic block technique. For more information click here!
